Hello everyone =Alex-Blaszczynski here.
For a while now we have been wanting to update our logo, and after some discussion we decided that the best way to get a new one is to host a contest!
Our current logo was designed by ~cgaratl who won our last logo contest
So all you logo and icon designers get ready because here are the details for #Digital-Art-Club's 2012 logo contest!

What we are looking for
Digital art club is in need of a new logo for the group to use across a variety of projects (facebook page, Stock Packs, tutorials +more) as well as for our groups avatar.
We will be using the avatar in future commercial projects so please bear in mind that by entering this contest you are giving us the rights to use the design in those commercial projects.

The brief

:bulletwhite: The logo needs to be a vector

:bulletorange:It needs to either have DAC or Digital Art Club in the design (does not have to be the focus)

:bulletwhite: Can be in either CMYK or RGB

:bulletorange: Should look modern

:bulletwhite: Should be relevant to the group (ie digital, art, design)

:bulletorange: We require a black version + a white version

:bulletwhite: needs to work in a 100px 50px avatar (you can have an alternate version of the logo that is specifically for the avatar)

:bulletorange: Please refrain from making animated logos. :3

We trust your creativity so we aren't putting up too many restrictions :)
also i have said this before but thank you to everyone who participated in the last contest
it made me really happy to see a lot of you join in :) anyway back to the main topic.

Rules

:bulletorange: No racist or religious symbols

:bulletwhite: You can submit as many designs as you want.

:bulletorange: Only one design will win

:bulletwhite: Make sure each submission has both the black and white version on it.

:bulletorange: You MUST include a 100x50px version in your submissions (remember it can be an alternate version)

To clear a couple of things up about the black and white versions of the logo, what we meant by that is that we want you to present your logo in a way similar to this image.

And now for the part that you have all been waiting for.

I am donating the prizes again, i will ask the other staff to donate some stuff if they can.

Hmmm - interesting discussion here…
But to be honest - I didn't get the point out of it. If the founders made the decision to update the logo - why not give it a shot. The option to get back to the old logo is still there.
Changing a logo is always a huge task and have its pro and cons at the same time. And in my opinion its absolutely necessary to change a logo from time to time. Why . its simple - maybe the philosophy has changed, the entire look must be changed or if its just to bring a forum to the future. Things changing day by day, especially it comes down to a graphical or visual look.
If we are not willing to do that - we still would wear white socks and neon colored stuff, because it was cute in the 80's…

Not sure if I'm happy with those common "crowd sourcing" thing when it comes to logo design or as we call corporate design. Corporate is one of the upper level when it comes to graphic design. This contains much more then just a logo…
but again - thats just my humble opinion.

to make it short - give the new logo contest a shot. And if the new logo looks impressive, go ahead with that and if not - keep the old one.
So both ways will be a win-win situation.

best

Have you, the staff, considered asking us, the people? And did you realise how stuck up it sounds what you you just said?

"Because we, the staff, believe that it is time to update our logo."

Sounds like they're all high and mighty when he says "we, the staff".

I think he was just pointing out who made the decision. As much as I love our members and respect the community opinion, the decision is ours to make. Nothing wrong with current loge, I personally love it and find it simple yet creative, and memorable as well. But change can be good, and if you can change something to better, and host a competive, fun contest with a nice prize list...then why not.

Kinda confused as how you came to that conclusion.
I was just stating who "we" are. i mean if i just say "we decided" it could mean anyone decided. It's just how i was taught to write by my English teachers in high school.

On the note of asking the people, we try to include the dac community in nearly all our decisions, however some decisions are made by the staff independently. However even though the initial decision to get a new logo was made by the staff we are involving the community by hosting this contest and giving people the opportunity to have their work featured and chosen.
